3 Durable Sofa Fabrics

by Russell Lowe

Your sofa is likely the statement piece of your living room or family room, but if it looks beaten up by your kids, then it's going to make a bad impression on anyone who walks into your home. To help you pick a sofa that will last, there are different types of fabrics that you may want to look for in one.

Microfiber

Microfiber sofas completely transformed the furniture industry when they came out. If you have ever used microfiber cloths to clean your house or car then you know how absorbent they can be overall. Now, picture that same softness and absorbency but on an Alenya Sofa instead. Microfiber sofas are ideal for people who have a lot of little kids or pets because they are easy to clean up, and liquids don't absorb into them. In fact, a lot of liquids will just settle on the top of the sofa which means that you won't be left with any stains.

Leather

Leather is another really durable fabric to consider when you are shopping around for a new sofa, but it may not be quite as durable as you think. Especially if you want it to remain in a certain condition. The unique thing about leather is that if you let it naturally age, it can last you lots of years and may transform over time. The bad thing about it is that it can get scratches on it from pets and it isn't stain resistant. If, however you embrace some of the natural flaws that come along with it, your leather sofa can be a beautiful piece that you will have for a very long time. Just make sure that you take care of it with treatments like a lather conditioner which will help keep it moisturized and soft.

Washable Fabric

Although a linen sofa may look beautiful, you won't be able to wash any of the cushions, If you want a sofa that has cushion covers that you can take off and then put into the dryer, then you will want to look for fabrics that are made out of something like a cotton and polyester blend. That way you know it won't shrink. Before you buy it double check with the manufacturer to ensure that you can actually wash it without it shrinking or wearing out,

In an ideal world you would have a sofa that would last a really long time, especially if you have little kids. But that's not always the case. To make sure that you end up with a sofa that lasts and looks good, keep these fabric options in mind. To learn more about sofas for sale, reach out to a furniture store near you.
